A 10-year collaboration between ISCR and the National Dong Hwa University (Taiwan)

When Professor Chen-Wei Liu (NDHU, Hualien, Taiwan) contacted some of the CTI members in 2008 from ISCR, in order to get some help for rationalizing the existence of a new compound, one was far to imagine that a long-term and very fruitful collaboration was just starting. The complementarity between the experimentalist and theoretical teams quickly evolved in a real synergy, giving rise to a research strategy that has led to several “firsts”. The works in collaborations were firstly devoted to giant polyhydrides of copper(I) stabilized by dichalcogenolate ligands, whereas in a second step they were focused on silver superatoms stabilized by the same ligands.

This collaboration produced so far 34 publications (of which 5 Angew. Chem. and 2 J. Am. Chem. Soc.). In 2016, C.-W. Liu and J.-Y. Saillard were awarded the Taiwan-France Science Fundation price.

Now, for the 10th birthday of their collaboration, they just published a review in Acc. Chem. Soc. (DOI:10.1021/acs.accounts.8b00349) and just obtained the acceptance of an international ANR-MOST research project.
