In addition to molecular electrochemistry and theoretical modeling he is leading the development of Enzymatic and Microbial Fuel Cells at the Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes where six PhD students have been supervised by Dr. Barrière in this field. He is a founding and elected board member (2015) of the International Society for Microbial Electrochemical Society (ISMET) and a member of the scientific committees for the International Microbial Fuel Cell conferences (now ISMET) where he has given invited lectures. F. Barrière has published more than 70 articles, reviews and book chapters (H-index 27) in the field of molecular and bio-electrochemistry and he is the recipient of the Young Investigator Award for electrochemistry from the French Chemical Society (2011). Since 2014 Dr. Barrière serves on the editorial board of Electrochemistry Communications (Elsevier) and is currently a member of the Bioelectrochemical Society. His research has been supported by the European Union (FP7-ENERGY-2008-FET, Marie Curie IF), the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (France), the Région Bretagne, the French Energy and Environmental Agency (ADEME), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The New Zealand Ministry of Innovation (MBIE, Smart Ideas), the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the University of Rennes 1 and CNRS.
